The Association was formed in 1922 to change the destructive path of federal policy from assimilation, termination, and allotment, to sovereignty, self-determination and self-sufficiency.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThroughout its 100-year history, the Association has provided national advocacy on watershed issues that support sovereignty and culture, while working at a grassroots level\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ewith Native Nations to support the implementation of programs that affect the daily lives of its citizens.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Association is governed by an all-Native Board of Directors from across the country that works in alliance with its Chief Executive \u0026amp; Attorney, Shannon O’Loughlin. The Board and staff are further advised by the Council of Advisors, whose members are prominent experts in many subject matter areas important to Indian Country.
